MECC
Concerned Ecumenical Partners
Over the next two days, we are holding the usual annual meeting of the ecumenical partners of the Middle Eastern churches, after nearly three years of interruption due to the pandemic that afflicted the world, which paralyzed the global travel movement and turned people to the "online" syndrome, which, truth be told, has solved many problems and significantly facilitated people’s lives.
This meeting takes place a few months after the end of the Twelfth General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches, which was delayed by nearly two years due to the pandemic as well. Moreover, it is being held two weeks before the meeting of the MECC Executive Committee, which will discuss basic directions in the strategies of the Council and will translate the recommendations of its General Assembly into programs and projects, according to the availability of resources.

The environment is at risk and humanity is suffering due to the effects of climate change! It is a bitter truth that we cannot conceal as long as it became a lived reality threatening the future of our generations who may inherit an uninhabitable world. However, some hopes were witnessed the past years, as voices were raised, especially with youth calling on governments and international concerned parties to work hard and faster to save people's lives and achieve the required and urgent change. But is anyone listening to all these young voices?
In fact, states’ presidents, diplomats, experts, and environmental activists meet each year in an international awaited environmental event which is the COP Climate Change Summit. It is the Conference of the Parties which aims at discussing urgent climate issues and taking all possible measures for a safer and more sustainable future. This year, the COP27’s activities will be held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, starting on Sunday 6th of November and ending on Friday 18th of November. She deserved the status
She is the woman, the mother, the sister, the wife, the daughter, the friend and the companion, and all the names of safety are given to her.
She is the security of man and humanity who were criminals to her for hundreds of years, so they robbed her of what she has and denied her what she is, just because they are stronger than her and because the jungle bequeathed society the predominance of the strongest and its domination of what it deserves and what it does not deserve.
She is patience, steadfastness, and endurance of the intolerable in order to preserve the one she loves.
She is the silent, prudent, long-suffering who embraced the makers of human history.
In her deep they were carried and, on her hands, they grew up, and on her melodious voice they fell asleep - or on her stories, those who drew the lines of civilization.
She is the foundations that hold the structure of human life, the hidden foundations that man rarely remembers.

Momentum, the Weekly Newsletter from the Middle East Council of Churches
In the new issue of the weekly newsletter Momentum issued by the Communication and Public Relations Department of the Middle East Council of Churches, you can find an invitation to attend a round table it organizes under the title "Women and Human Dignity", on Thursday 27 October 2022, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Beirut. You can participate in it via the following Zoom link: https://tinyurl.com/2jb2y9vy, or live on the MECC Facebook page. As for the weekly message of the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, it is entitled “The Fragile Global Peace”, in which he tackled the danger that people and the world are facing in light of the war in Europe.
The Fragile Global Peace
As of the end of World War II and the shifting of the turning of victorious countries to fueling small wars that keep fires burning in different parts of the world, without compromising world peace and disturbing the affluent nations, people have not felt the fateful threat that they feel today in the light of the ongoing warfare going on in Europe.
I say Europe, and I do not say Ukraine, because everyone knows- the political scientist as well as the ordinary newspaper reader- that a war of this caliber, in this particular place and at this time, cannot be considered as a local war or a conflict between two states, limited in time and place.
The war that was kindled in Europe, which may harm Europe's life to say the least, and may lead to the destruction of its beautiful civilization - God forbid - is only the culmination point of small, cold wars raging in any part of the world, where the so-called "great" countries’ vital strategic interests lie as a basis of world-wide energy.
