MECC rehabilitating shops in Dara’a and Aleppo | Syria

Within the framework of its WASH program, MECC rehabilitated 24 shops in Aleppo and Dara’a governorates,

The rehabilitated shops were partly destroyed during the Syrian crisis, leaving their owners workless, or forced to get hired as workers in other shops.

The reconstruction allowed the owners to get back to work in their own shops; it also helped in creating additional job opportunities as most of the shop owners need to hire workers to assist them.

One of the beneficiaries said, “I own a fabric shop in Dara’a, and I worked in it with my son for many years. After the shop was destroyed due to the war, we became workless. The MECC team helped in rehabilitating my shop”.

He added, “The rehabilitation work included, among other necessary steps taken, the installation of a metal door for the shop, clay work, necessary electrical wiring and painting”.

He concluded, “I am happy because I got the chance to work again in my own shop with my son as we used to do many years back. The income from this shop supports my family, as well as my son’s. Both of us are too old to be workers in other shops; plus, no shop owner would accept to hire us”.
