Psychosocial Support to Sow Hope Amid Deteriorating Life Conditions in Lebanon

The deadly outbreak of the Coronavirus has had many negative repercussions on people’s mental health, especially women and children, who are considered to be the most vulnerable. The Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, Beirut office, organized many psychological and social support sessions allowing participants to restore their normal life activities.

12 women participated in 8 sessions that helped with their mental health, as they struggle with different severe mental health issues due to loneliness, in particular after the lockdown imposed by Covid-19. These sessions were also supportive to some women who had faced gender-based violence (GBV), cultural isolation from others, and traumas from experiences.

It is also worth noting that 12 children benefited from 4 psychosocial support sessions that played a valuable role in promoting their well-being and resiliency. They participated in many games and recreational activities providing them with opportunities to develop capacities and resources to help them deal with the emotional, social, and practical challenges they may face daily.

This support program was implemented in partnership and cooperation with the international organization Norwegian Church Aid - NCA.
