According to Judicial officials, Lebanon received on the 5th of May, a preliminary report from France about the massive explosion that occurred last year in August. The officials said that the French report will benefit the ongoing investigation in Beirut but will not give out details of the report, in compliance with regulations.

About 10 months after the explosion, the cause of the initial fire in the warehouse, which then caused the explosion, remains unknown. However, earlier this month, the judge investigating the blast, Tarek Bitar, requested that countries with satellites stationed over Lebanon provide authorities with images taken before and after the explosion that could help their investigation.

The same sources reported, "The French judges, who are conducting an independent investigation into the Beirut port explosion, visited Beirut last week, and held multiple meetings with the judicial investigator, Tariq Al-Bitar, and accompanied him on a tour of the port, and information was exchanged between the two parties and coordination for the next stage. Moreover, Al-Bitar interogated a number of witnesses, including the Minister of Interior in the caretaker government, Muhammad Fahmy.

Whether or not the report has details regarding who is responsible, it will surely explain whether there was a missile strike. Such a step will weed out unecessary hypotheses and will refocus the investigation in a direction that may yield some answers.
