MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs On a Visit to His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II
A delegation from the Middle East Council of Churches headed by Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs visited His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, and president of the Council for the Eastern Orthodox Family, on Wednesday 29 December 2021 at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Atchane, Lebanon.
The delegation included the Director of the Theological and Ecumenical Department Father Antoine Al Ahmar, and the coordinator of the Service and Relief Department – Diakonia, Beirut office, Nina Hallak.
During the meeting, Dr. Michel Abs offered his greetings to His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II on the occasion of Christmas and New Year. He also presented to His Holiness the ongoing preparations towards the MECC 12th General Assembly which will be held between 16 and 19 May 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, under the title of “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27).
His Holiness the Patriarch and the delegation also discussed the latest updates of the MECC work. Dr. Abs gave a brief overview of the projects and programs that the Council is working on with all its departments in order to achieve the desired ecumenical and humanitarian goals.
The meeting was also attended by their Eminences Mor Theophilus George Saliba, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Sister Theodora, member of the Theological committee at the Council.
