The MECC General Secretariat in Beirut Remembers Gabi Habib

United in Prayer with His Family

On the Forty days’ memory of Late Gabi Habib, former Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches, the MECC General Secretariat’s team, headed by the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, held a special Prayer service on the intention of his soul, asking God to raise him to share the glory of the risen Christ. Habib’s small family, his wife Kathy and two daughters Maria Gabriel and Anna Sophia, participated in the Prayer which was made on Tuesday 25 October 2022 at the MECC headquarters in Beirut.

The Prayer included the rite of incense, psalms, invocations, hymns, and a Bible reading from Saint Matthew (25/31-46) dedicated to the Feast of All Saints celebrated on 1 November 2022. Following the Prayer, participants and Habib’s family remembered the journey of Late brother, father and teacher Gabi Habib on the ecclesiastical, ecumenical and professional levels, during a session full of golden memories and experiences of those who knew him, lived and worked with him.

From her end, Mrs. Kathy expressed the love of late Secretary General and his devotion to the MECC mission, as well as his keenness to develop the ecumenical work in the East. She stressed the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood which he spread in his life and work with Christian and human values. She also mentioned that through her studies of theology and political science she was able to know deeper the ecumenical movement and the Middle East. Mrs. Kathy said that it was a blessing for her to live and work here and an honor for her to experience MECC as Gabi’s wife. As well as, she thanked the MECC team for its continuous efforts in the ecumenical movement, stressing the need to move forward with a spirit of unity and love.

Together, we pray for the soul of the deceased Gabi Habib and all those who passed away to the heart of God, saying in one voice: “O God, to whom mercy and forgiveness belong, hear our Prayers on behold of Your servants, who You have called out of this world; and because they put their hope and trust in You, command that they be carried safety home to heaven and come to enjoy Your eternal reward. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”
