Distribution of Hygiene, School and Winter Clothing Kits to Children
The Service and Relief Department- Diakonia, at the Middle East Council of Churches, Damascus office, distributed various in-kind kits to students in six schools in Rural Damascus, Aleppo and Homs in order to support the most vulnerable groups.
The students of a school in Bloudan and another in Madaya in Rural Damascus received hygiene and school kits in addition to children clothing kits. In addition, the students of other two schools in Homs and two in Aleppo, received school and hygiene kits.
4300 students (aged 6 to 14) benefited from distributions in the six schools.
These distributions were implemented after MECC completed the rehabilitation of the WASH facilities in those schools in order to provide a healthy school environment to children in addition to implementing hygiene awareness activities addressing the importance of personal hygiene in preventing diseases.
The local community highly appreciated the assistance as one of the student’s mothers said,” My husband and I are employees but our salaries is barely sufficient to cover the expenses of food and rent. We have four children and with the beginning of each academic year, we borrow money to buy some stationary that our children need because the prices of stationary are very high and are increasing every year. Moreover, the school kit allowed my children to get new school bags instead of their old worn out school bags. All of our family members will benefit from the hygiene kit”.
The distribution was implemented taking into account all the COVID-19 prevention measures.
