MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs Participating in the WCC Central Committee Meetings in Preparation for its 11th General Assembly
At the invitation of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs participated in the online meetings held by the WCC central committee from 9 to 15 February 2022 to prepare for the WCC 11th general assembly. Noting that the assembly will take place in August-September in Karlsruhe, Germany under the theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”
The central committee agenda includes many matters related to the 11th General assembly and its preparations, such as the report from the assembly Planning Committee, assembly nominations, the draft unity statement and documents intended for use at the assembly. As well as, different scenarios for the assembly in the context of the pandemic are being discussed. The Working Group on Constitution and Rules will also present its work for consideration.
Dr Agnes Abuom, WCC central committee moderator, expressed her very high hopes for the 11th General assembly, during a press conference held on 9 February 2022 at the opening day of the meetings. As for the WCC Acting General Secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, he assured that the pandemic cannot keep them from having an assembly, mentioning that the churches and the government in Germany are doing their best to assure we have an assembly.
It is worth mentioning that the Middle East Council of Churches is an active member at the World Council of Churches. WCC and MECC coordinate together since their establishment, to achieve the desired ecumenical and humanitarian goals.
