MECC Associate Secretary General Rev. Rifaat Fikri
President by Acclamation of the Evangelical Conference of Cairo

After the election of Rev. Rifaat Fikri as President of the Evangelical Conference of Cairo by acclamation, the General Secretariat of the Middle East Council of Churches extended its warmest congratulations and best wishes to Reverend Fikri, wishing him success on his new journey.
Rev. Rifaat Fikri is a key member of the General Secretariat family. He is the Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches and the Head of the Council for Dialogue and Ecumenical Relations in the Evangelical Church in Egypt. He was appointed as President of the Cairo Evangelical Conference by acclamation in its 159th session held on February 25, 2022.
Rev. Rifaat Fikri, born in January 1969, received a bachelor’s degree in Theological Sciences from the Evangelical Theological Faculty in 1994, and a second degree in Communication from Cairo University in 2004. He is now working on a master’s degree at the Institute of African Studies and Research at Cairo University, in Politics and Economics, on the following subject: “The Theology of Liberation and its Impact on the Liberation of South Africa”.
Rev. Fikri is a lecturer on many humanitarian topics, including citizenship and human rights, and is the author of several weekly articles published in Egyptian newspapers and websites. He chaired the Synod of the Nile in 2018 and 2019, and was the Pastor of the Evangelical Church in Abu Hammad, Sharqia Governorate, in 1997 and 2000, and of the Evangelical Church in Ard Sharif, Shubra, in 2000 and 2015.
Reverend Fikri also wrote books like: Violence against Women, Christianity and Violence, From an Evangelical Priest to the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Religious Reform between the East and the West, and Tolerance, a Missing Virtue.
