With great hope, the Middle East Council of Churches continued the activities of its 12th General Assembly on its third day, on Wednesday May 18, 2022, under the title "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid" (Matthew 14: 27) at the Papal Logos Center in Wadi El Natrun in Egypt, hosted by the Coptic Orthodox Church, headed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. The meetings of this day included discussions and studies on various theological, human, service and media levels in order to achieve the Ecumenical and societal desired goals for all the people of the region.
The morning prayer was recited by the Catholic family, then the plenary session started and was moderated by His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Mar Louis Raphael Sako, Chaldean Patriarch in Iraq and the World. The session also included greetings from representatives of some Churches and Ecumenical organizations, MECC partners from all over the world.
In addition, the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs presented his report, which included all the activities and programs he managed and implemented during the past years of his mandate. Then the report was discussed by the participants.
As for the second part of the third day’s meetings, the participants attended many working groups depending on their choices, and were centered around the ECC strategies: Diakonia and Social Service, Communication and Advocacy, Christian Witness and Ecumenical Relations, Dialogue and Social Cohesion - Social Capital Rehabilitation, and Organizational Development and Sustainability. Afterwards each group prepared its report and recommendations and presented thir conclusions to all the attendees at the Holy Synod Hall.
The third day of this Ecumenical event concluded with a first reading of the draft final statement prepared by the Drafting Committee, then the closing prayer was recited by the Catholic family.
