MECC Implements a WASH Campaign in Dara’a City

The Diakonia and Social Service Department, at the Middle East Council of Churches, Syria’s office, launched a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) campaign in Dara’a city to support the local community. This activity was implemented within the Cash for Work Program.

The two-month campaign contributes to providing temporary job opportunities for 100 workers including women and persons with disabilities.

The WASH campaign includes roads sweeping, removal and transportation of waste from the city entrances and squares. In addition, the campaign will work on the removal of dry grass from road verges to preserve the beauty and cleanliness of the city.

MECC will give the participating people with disabilities the needed adaptive tools including wheelchairs, axillary and elbow crutches, and hearing aid devices, etc…

Moreover, MECC will organize psycho-social support sessions for the participants in the campaign, in addition to organizing awareness raising sessions for local community about the inclusion of persons with disabilities in order to enable them to integrate in their communities and achieve equality.

It is important to note that MECC intends during the current month of June to launch another two-month WASH campaign in Tafas City in Dara’a Governorate.
