Forestation Days - Youth Bringing Life Back to the Heart of Nature
MECC Implements a Forestation Campaign in Kfar Falous, Lebanon
Together for a Safer Home!
With the aim of enhancing environmental awareness and working to protect nature and God's creation, the Middle East Council of Churches continues its green activities with the Ecumenical youth in various countries of the Middle East. Thus, MECC implemented a new forestation campaign, in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization "Danmission", in Kfar Falous region in Lebanon, under the slogan "Plant a tree that will protect ten trees", on Saturday 18 March 2023, with the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elie Haddad of the Greek Catholic Melkite Diocese of Sidon and Deir El-Qamar.
Young men and women from different Church families, participated in the campaign, as they headed, since morning, from various Lebanese regions to the House of Pentecost, Church of St. Nicholas, Melkite Greek Catholic Archdiocese. The participants were accompanied by the member of the MECC Eco Justice Committee Deacon Garen Yosulkanian, who is the person in charge of the forestation.
The activity’s program included a Prayer time from the "Season of Creation" 2022 booklet, which was translated into Arabic by MECC, as every year, in addition to a discussion about the importance of the creation care, the role of environmental justice through Worship and Church teachings, and tree planting techniques. The participants planted 40 olive trees and 20 lemon trees.
It should be noted that the Middle East Council of Churches is organizing a series of forestation campaigns with the youth in the countries of the region, as part of the “Forestation Days” project, in order to motivate people to preserve the land, our common home, and to consolidate the principles of environmental justice for a safer environment.
