MECC Supports 9th-Grade Students in Succeeding their Final Exams
Within the framework of the Middle East Council of Churches’ efforts to assist students in pursuing their academic studies, and stemming from the belief that education is the foundation of peace and security in the world; the MECC Service and Relief – Diakonia Department, Syria’s Office, implemented remedial classes for 9th-grade students which targeted 135 students.
The classes addressed all necessary information in the curriculum in order to improve the academic level of students to enable them to pass the 9th-grade official exams successfully.
The 3-month course included a recreational activity day for the students, which aimed to explain children's rights, support the students, and help them set priorities and develop a study plan to prepare for the final exam.
One of the participating students in the remedial classes said, "Since the first day of my participation in the classes, I was confident that my academic level would improve because the teachers did not hesitate to answer any question. They also explain the lesson in a way that helps me understand it well. I started assisting my friends at school in understanding any information in any subject they find difficult to understand... My self-confidence has increased, and I no longer fear taking the 9th-grade final exams.”
As well as, the MECC Service and Relief – Diakonia Department, provided positive parenting and health awareness-raising sessions for the mothers/ caregivers of targeted students. The aim was to help them deal better with their children and families and increase their awareness of positive parenting, sexual, and reproductive health matters.
Participant mothers/ caregivers received winter clothing for the student and one of their siblings, in addition to medicines, medical devices, and a food basket.
