The Middle East Council of Churches Joins A Campaign for Climate Justice in Indonesia
Within the framework of the ACT Alliance Youth Pre Assembly held from October 26 to 27, 2024, in the Yogyakarta region of Indonesia, an environmental campaign for climate justice was organized to emphasize the need to stand together in order to preserve the Earth and protect our common home.
The campaign was prepared by participants in this pre assembly—representatives of organizations from different countries around the world—including the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC). According to its Secretary-General, Professor Dr. Michel Abs, the Council relies on science and technology to defend the environment, to fight those who harm it, and believes that the Creator has handed it to us clean and intact. It is our primary duty to preserve it and hand it over to future generations in the same condition.
During the campaign, young men and women held up various banners they had prepared in creative ways, calling for hard work to reduce every threat to the environment in order to achieve climate justice and build a safer future. The campaign also included a moment of Prayer glorifying God the Creator, as well as several speeches and a theatrical performance embodying the environmental issue.
In this context, the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) had a speech which was delivered by the Communication and Media Officer at the Communication and Public Relations Department, Elia Nasrallah, in which he spoke about the environmental reality in the Middle East and its most prominent challenges, highlighting the most important environmental programs and projects implemented by the Council.
Hence, it must be noted that most countries of the world are sounding the alarm regarding environmental issues, as it has become necessary to concert efforts and expedite saving the environment from every action that may harm it and thus harm human life.
