An Ecumenical Conference in Wadi El Natrun on the Occasion of the 1700th Anniversary of the Nicaea Council
Media Coordination Between WCC and MECC
With great hope, the world and the Middle East will celebrate in 2025 the 1700th anniversary of the world’s first Ecumenical Council, the Council of Nicaea which was held in the year 325 to constitute a fundamental and pivotal station in the history of the Christian faith and the Ecumenical path.
For this occasion, the World Council of Churches (WCC) is preparing to implement a series of activities with Churches and Christian World Communions, as well as regional and international organizations, Theological and Ecumenical institutions. The most prominent celebration will take place within the WCC Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order, which will be held around the theme “Where now for visible unity?”, between 24 and 28 October 2025, at the Papal Logos Center in Wadi El Natroun - Egypt.
In preparation for this conference, which will bring together international Church Leaders and Theologians on various issues of faith and unity, the World Council of Churches continues its various organizational meetings. In this context, an online coordination session was held, on Monday 19 August 2024, between the communication and media teams of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC).
Attendees from WCC were the Director of the Communication Department Marianne Ejdersten, the Communication Officer for Faith and Order Dr. Stephen Brown, and the Programme Executive for Church and Ecumenical Relations and Communication Marcelo Schneider. As from MECC, attendees were the Media and Communication Officer Elia Nasrallah, and the Social Media Officer Sub-Deacon Chady Chata.
During the meeting, the participants discussed various media issues related to media coverage of the Ecumenical Conference that WCC will hold in Wadi El Natroun, in addition to ways of coordinating and cooperating together in order to highlight this celebratory event. The attendees also exchanged media and logistics’ opinions and experiences with the aim of developing a clear action plan and media strategy for this conference.
In fact, this coordination media meeting comes from the belief of WCC and MECC in the importance of the media’s role in advocacy and enhancing knowledge about the most prominent historical Christian stations. In addition to shedding light on activities that contribute to consolidating the Ecumenical spirit throughout the earth.
As for the Pontifical Logos Center, the place where the Sixth World Conference of Faith and Order will be held, it is noteworthy that it was established by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Mark, to form a center for dialogue, communication, culture and education. Noting that the Twelfth General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches was held under the hospitality of His Holiness in this cultural and intellectual Ecclesiastical edifice, between 16 and 22 May 2022, under the title "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid" (Matthew 14: 27).
