The MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs Meets with Church Authorities in Aleppo

As part of his official follow up visit to the office of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in Aleppo, the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs met with the Church Authorities at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, at the invitation of the Metropolitan of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, Alexandretta and their Dependencies.
Attendees were alongside His Eminence Bishop Ephraim Maalouli, the Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo His Eminence Archbishop Boutros Marayati, the Chaldean Bishop of Aleppo His Eminence Bishop Antoine Audo, the Maronite Archbishop of Aleppo His Eminence Bishop Youssef Tobji, the Armenian Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo His Eminence Bishop Magar Ashkarian, the Head of the Armenian Protestant Community in Aleppo Reverend Dr. Harutyun Suleiman, Father Raymond Girgis, the Episcopal Vicar of the Latin Church in Syria, Father Bahjat Karakach, the Head of the Latin Monastery in Aleppo, Father Kommidas Dadaglian, Armenian Catholic Archdiocese, Father Gabriel Azar, the Director of MECC Office in Aleppo Lamis Makhoul, the MECC Coordinator of the Church and Media Relations Journalist Lea Adel Maamary.
Firstly, His Eminence Bishop Ephraim Maalouli welcomed Dr. Michel Abs and their Eminences the Bishops and Priests, praising the importance of this meeting, which lies in the interest of the Church and society.
Then, Dr. Abs thanked His Eminence Bishop Ephraim for organizing this lovely and fraternal meeting. He talked at length about the MECC role, its work programs, and various projects in the Aleppo’s Office. Noting that these projects have an impact on everyone without exception. Dr. Abs also highlighted his vision and aspirations.
Afterwards, the attendees discussed many topics, including the existential challenge facing the migration dilemma, the issue of survival and rooting in the country, the need for psychological support for families and children as a result of war, disasters and crises, building a bridge of communication between other Religions in order to preserve humanity, achieving the Church’s mission through love and solidarity, formation to activate the Christian role in society through seminars, workshops, community guidance, and other topics of human interest amidst the changing world.
Moreover, all attendees congratulated Dr. Michel Abs on the occasion of his re-election for a second term of four years, praising the MECC role and looking forward to more prosperity and service for the good of mankind.
