Under the title “Do you believe this?” (John 11: 26), a Prayer Service for Christian unity for the year 2025 was held at the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Evangelist St. Mark the Apostle - Maadi - Cairo, presided over by His Grace Bishop Daniel, Bishop of Maadi and Its Dependencies and Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church, at the invitation of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in cooperation with the Egyptian Council of Churches, with the participation of Representatives of the Heads of the Churches in Egypt, the MECC Honorary Secretary General Dr. Gergis Saleh, and the MECC Associate Secretary General Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, Canon Dr. Bahig Ramzy, Head of the Executive Committee of the Egyptian Council of Churches, representing the Secretary General of the Egyptian Council of Churches Reverend Yachouh Yaacoub, Father Michel Milad, Member of the Priests and Parishes Committee, Father Youhanna Saad, Member of the Priests and Parishes Committee at the Council, Reverend Najib Fadl, Pastor of the Evangelical Church of Maadi, Deacon Essam Ayad, Member of the Week of Prayer Committee, Mr. Medhat Fayez, Head of the Ecumenical Committee, Nora Edward, Member of the Week of Prayer Committee and the Media and Publicity Officer for the Week of Prayer, Kyrollos Wehbeh, Member of the Week of Prayer Committee, Nancy Anis, Member of the Week of Prayer Committee, and believers, amidst the chanting of the Deacons’ choir.
The Prayer began with a speech delivered by His Grace Bishop Daniel, in which he discussed the meanings of the Week of Unity, its dimensions, and how to live it with love, integration, and solidarity. He also thanked all those who participated in the Prayer Service.
Then, Canon Dr. Bahig Ramzy from the Episcopal Church delivered a speech on behalf of the Secretary General of the Egyptian Council of Churches Reverend Yachouh Yaacoub, in which he stressed the unity of love and dialogue, presenting a detailed explanation of the work of the Egyptian Council of Churches, its activities and committees.
Afterwards, many Prayers and Scriptural Readings from the Holy Bible were recited.
The Prayer also included hymns performed by the Deacons’ choir.
