The Greek Orthodox, Syriac Orthodox and Greek Catholic Patriarchs Congratulate President Al-Shara

Damascus, January 31, 2025
His Beatitude Patriarch John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) for the Orthodox Family, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches, and His Beatitude Patriarch Joseph Absi, Patriarch of the Greek Catholic Church, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches, sent a joint telegram of congratulation to President Ahmad Al-Shara. The telegram reads:
"Mister Ahmad Al-Shara, President of the Syrian Arab Republic,
We congratulate you for the victory and your stepping in as President of the Syrian Arab Republic, lifting our prayers to God Almighty that He may bestow upon you the strength and wisdom to manage this pivotal transitional phase for the good of the nation and its people. The people of Syria, of all affiliations, have suffered what greatly, but today we are on the threshold of a new history that is mainly characterized by security, freedom and dignity for every Syrian citizen. As we share with you the joy of a new sunrise for Syria, we express to you our solidarity and support, hand in hand with all our brothers from the Syrian people, to lead the homeland and its constitutional institutions to prosperity. Thus, we hope to be fair towards this victory by securing its right to serve great responsibility and trust, by preserving it as a precious legacy for Syria. Therefore, Syria shall write new, bright pages in the book of its glorious history. May you, Syria and the Syrian people live long, free and proud.
