  • In GoS-controlled areas of the country,(as of 14 March), the Syrian Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 16478 Laboratory-confirmed cases, 1099 fatalities, and 10970 Recoveries.

  • 16478 laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported by the Syrian MoH : 3368 in Damascus; 2578 in Lattakia; 2365 in Aleppo; 2304 in Homs; 1632 in Rural Damascus; 1259 in Tartous; 965 in Dar’a; 901 in Sweida; 721 in Hama; 281 in Quneitra; 62 in Deir-Ez-Zor; 35 in Al-Hasakeh and 7 in Ar-Raqqa.

  • In Northwest Syria,

o   The plan to distribute the English vaccine (AstraZeneca) includes the entire areas of northwestern Syria, where the vaccination will take place in three stages. The first phase will cover 20 percent of the population this year in three or four installments. "

o   The Director of the Vaccination Program in the "Support Coordination Unit" said "We are waiting for 120000 doses of the English vaccine (AstraZeneca) to arrive by the end of March, provided that they are sufficient for 60,000 people only, at a rate of two doses per person."

o   The tentatively suggested number of doses is around one million and 700 thousand doses (which constitutes about 20 percent of the entire population in North and NW region). [2]  

o   The target groups were prioritized based on series of discussions among the parties involved and include health care workers (3%), the elderly aged 60 and above (7.5%) and people in the age group 20-59 with special conditions such as immune-compromised persons and persons with chronic illnesses (9.5%)[3]

  • During this reporting period, the average number of cases per day rose to 3,679.

  • The Minister of Public Health Dr. Hamad Hassan, received the Minister of Industry in Dr. Imad Hoballah, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Arwan" Pharmaceutical Industries, Eng. Abdul Razzaq Yousef, and its Vice President Dr. Ruwaida Daham. Discussions were limited to the endeavors of the company "Arawan" to manufacture the Sputnik V vaccine after obtaining the necessary approval from the relevant health authorities in Russia.

  • The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Hamad Hassan, received in his office at the ministry, Director of the Levant Department at the World Bank, Saruj Kumar and followed up with him the national vaccination plan. Minister Hassan pointed to the importance of intensifying support for Lebanon in the challenges it faces at various levels. Moreover, he stressed on the importance of increasing the amount of vaccines that are received in succession."

  • The Ministry of Public Health received 30 ventilators donated by the African Continental Council.

  • The Minister of Public Health visited Khirbet Kanafar Governmental Hospital to inspect the field operation of its work, especially after the appointment of a new director, chair, and board of directors for the hospital.

  • The Ministry of Public Health reported that the AstraZeneca vaccine had arrived during this month.
