Middle East Council of Churches, Beirut office, Supports People Psychologically and Socially
The Middle East Council of Churches continues its support to citizens and residents in Lebanon amidst the worsening crises and the increase of daily stress that have exhausted them psychologically and morally. Therefore, it can help them getting back their psychological health and usual activity.
Awareness on Gender-Based violence
The Relief and Service Department - Diakonia, Lebanon Office, organized 2 awareness sessions on gender-based violence for 40 women and 2 other sessions for 40 men. The team presented a brief overview about violence and its types, and discussed the circumstances of its occurrence and ways to face it. As well as, the participants exchanged their experiences.
At the end of the sessions, a leaflet was distributed to the beneficiaries containing instructions and names of different organizations that they can consult when facing any social violence.
Psychosocial support
The Diakonia Department in Beirut implemented also 28 psychosocial support sessions for 36 women. The participants suffer from various health and psychological problems in addition to severity due to loneliness especially after the lockdown imposed by the Coronavirus outbreak. Some of them are also facing gender-based violence, cultural isolation and trauma due to previous experiences.
As well as, 24 children participated in 16 sessions that also focused on psychosocial support, and contributed in enhancing their well-being and resiliency. They also participated in several recreational games and activities in order to develop their abilities and knowledge in dealing with emotional, social and practical challenges that they may daily face.
Developing women's capabilities
The Service and Relief Department, Beirut office, completed 28 sessions for 36 women aiming at empowering women and developing their capabilities. The participants learned the skill of drawing on wood and were encouraged to develop and enhance it so that they could use it as a way of self-sustainability.
This support program was achieved in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization Norwegian Church Aid - NCA, and was implemented in Our Lady Dispensary, affiliated to the Middle East Council of Churches and located in Sabtiyeh – Lebanon.
