Receives the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, and a Delegation from the Council - Cairo

The Patriarchal Vicar General of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Egypt, Sudan and South Sudan, His Eminence Bishop Jean-Marie Chami, received the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs, and a delegation from the Council that included the Associate Secretary General Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, and the Coordinator of Communication for Church Relations the journalist Lea Adel Maamary, at the Patriarchate Headquarters - Cairo.
The meeting centered around fruitful topics that were related to the society, environment, and the Church.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs presented an extensive explanation about the Council, its Church Families, and its activities and aspirations, especially in the Fiftieth Year of its Founding, stressing that this year’s activities fall within the framework of thought and Prayer, meditation and foresight.
He explained that the Council is preparing for many of activities in more than one country, including Egypt, and will seek to reactivate the role of the Middle East Council of Churches’ office in Egypt.
Since His Eminence Bishop Jean-Marie Chami is specialized in environmental issues, the Secretary General Dr. Abs briefed him on the activities that are being implemented by the Council in this context, hoping that he would cooperate with His Eminence in Egypt for the same purpose.
For his part, Bishop Jean-Marie Chami expressed his pride in what the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs presented about the MECC work and its future vision. He praised the activity that will be held in Egypt on the occasion of the MECC Fiftieth Jubilee of its Founding. He also welcomed the idea of reactivating his office.
He expressed his cooperation with the Council for whatever it needs regarding environmental and social issues, based on his experience and work on these issues.
His Eminence Jean-Marie Chami stressed that everyone works for good, love, and building a bridge of communication with the aim of strengthening the relations in one family. This is what the Middle East Council of Churches is also doing.
