A Meeting Centering on the MECC Work, Activities and Aspirations

His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly, Pastor of the Coptic Catholic Diocese of Giza, Fayoum and Beni Souef, received the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs, the MECC Associate Secretary General Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, and the Coordinator of Communication for Church Relations the journalist Lea Adel Maamary, at the Diocese’s headquarters - Cairo.
Firstly, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs highlighted the objectives of his visit to Egypt, informing His Eminence about the MECC work on various Ecclesiastical, social, and humanitarian levels.
He also briefed him on the activities of the MECC Fiftieth Year of its founding, especially the activity that will be implemented in Egypt, in addition to reactivating the work of the MECC’s Office in Egypt.
In turn, His Eminence praised all the ideas and aspirations presented by Dr. Michel Abs, given their great importance on the Ecclesiastical and social levels. He mentioned that the Council is witnessing a stage of prosperity and intellectual, human and social growth, and this is what is considered an advanced step.
Regarding the activity of the Fiftieth Year of the MECC Founding, His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly explained:
“This work is very important and it is good that it coincides with the date of the Entry of the Holy Family into Egypt, expressing his readiness and support in making this activity a success.
He also praised the idea of reactivating the work of the MECC’s Office in Egypt, wishing Dr. Michel Abs good health and wellness to remain a pioneer in the Ecumenical work and strengthening the bonds of relations between Churches.
