Archbishop Youssef Absi Elected Patriarch of Melkite Greek Catholic Church

A special Synod of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, convened to choose new leadership, has elected His Eminence, Archbishop Joseph Absi, as its next Patriarch. Archbishop Absi will succeed His Beatitude, Patriach Gregorius III Laham.

Archbishop Absi is from the Melkite Greek Catholic Paulist Order and was member of the MECC Executive Committee for many years. Since 2007, he has been the Patriarchal Vicar of the Archeparchy of Damascus, Syria.
