Under the title “Do you believe this?” (John 11: 26), the Prayer Service for Christian unity for the year 2025 was held at the Holy Family Coptic Catholic Church in Cairo, presided over by Father Dr. Augustine Maurice, Pastor of the Church, with the participation of Representatives of the Heads of the Churches in Egypt, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs, and Members of the Priests Committee in the Egyptian Council of Churches, the MECC Honorary Secretary General Dr. Gergis Saleh, the MECC Associate Secretary General Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, the Media Officer and the Coordinator of the Church and Media Relations at MECC Lea Adel Maamary, the Women's Committee in the Egyptian Council of Churches, youth, scouts, Believers and choirs.
The Prayer began with a speech delivered by the Pastor of the Church Father Dr. Augustine Maurice who talked about the meanings and dimensions of the Week of Unity and how to live it with love, integration and solidarity. He also thanked all those who participated in the Prayer Service.
Then, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs delivered a speech in which he explained the global path of the Ecumenical movement and its embodiment in the World Council of Churches. He highlighted the role of these Councils in developing Christian work, which is a form of Christian unity.
In addition, he presented the history of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), its current structure and activities.
Afterwards, Deacon Essam Ayad introduced all the speakers who recited the Prayers and the Scriptural Readings from the Holy Bible.
Then, Reverend Fayez Nadi from the Episcopal Church delivered a speech on behalf of the Secretary General of the Egyptian Council of Churches Reverend Yachouh Yaacoub, in which he stressed the unity of love and dialogue, presenting a detailed explanation about the work of the Egyptian Council of Churches, its activities and committees.
The Prayer also included hymns performed by the Church Choir and the St. Joseph Greek Catholic Choir led by Silva Awdeh.
